About From My Mother’s Garden

A creative “wearable art” fashion label under the charming name From My Mother’s Garden. The label is the inspiration of Penny Callaghan, owner of Colmers Hill Fashion Boutique in West Dorset.

What sets the range apart is the beautiful prints that Penny has created. The first designs were entitled Harmony, Radiance, Connection and Reflection which captured the vibrant colours and magical beauty of an English garden. The names were conceived by Penny’s Mother to denote how she feels when she is in her garden.

She was inspired by her Mother’s garden, the times they have spent there and their close mother & daughter bond.

Penny explains, “My idea originally came from my Mother asking my partner Alistair and I to take a series of photos of her small but very beautiful garden. She derives such joy from it and so we wanted to capture some of its beauty. When I saw the images, I immediately thought that they could look stunning on fabric because of the colours and so started the idea for the collection. I did a BA Hons Creative Arts Degree at University so I have been dreaming of doing a project like this since then! Now I have a boutique, it felt more possible to become a reality.”

The beautiful new clothing range includes luxury reversible velvet kimonos, lightweight kimonos and long robes. More recently, the collection has been expanded to include dresses, tulle skirts, trousers, tops, accessories and a range of homewares including lampshades, throws and cushions.

From My Mother’s Garden uses environmentally responsible fabrics and techniques wherever possible. The lightweight kimonos are made of Viscose and other items from bamboo, linen and recycled polyester. Sublimation printing is used which minimises wastage and only prints the fabric required.

“For me, it’s about cherishing an item of clothing and valuing it as a work of art in its own right,” says Penny. “It fits the ethos of my boutique, where we actively promote slow fashion.”

Penny is selling the new collection online and at selected fashion boutiques and gift shops around the country.
